This Hot-Dipped Galvanized Trailer Leaf Spring U-Bolt kit fits 2 inch by 2 inch square axles. The Hot-Dipped galvanized coating helps prevent rust in the harsh marine environments. This U-Bolt Kit is used to mount your trailer leaf springs to your axle by using the (2) U-Bolts and (1) 4 hole plate on each side. This kit includes (4) 1/2 x 2 x 4 13/16 inch square U-Bolts, (2) Galvanized 4 Hole Mounting Plates, and (8) galvanized nuts and lock washers. This Trailer U Bolt kit is most common on boat trailers with either 2,220 lb or 3500 lb trailer axles using 3 to 4 leaf trailer springs. The length of the u bolts in this kit also makes them ideal for use when purchasing a new Dexter Axle from us with Leaf Springs. This kit will complete both sides of (1) 2" x 2" trailer axle. To increase the life of your galvanized hardware, Boeshields T-9 Rust and Corrosion Protection Waterproof Lubrication Spray can be applied as a barrier against corrosion.

Works well but don’t over tighten

I looked online and found a recommendation to torque 1/2 “ u-bolts to 65 ftlbs and applying a thread lubricant. I applied and anti-seize lubricant and started to tighten in a cross pattern sequence and noticed that when I got to around 30 ftlbs the plate had already bent at the corners and was bowed up in the middle. I ended up re-ordering and tightened just until the lock washers were compressed flat as instructed by a customer service rep at Sturdy Built and no plate bending occurred this time. Took the trailer on its maiden voyage and everything worked fine.

Safety first. If your u-bolts go south on you, your boat will end up wrecked. Galvanized or SS only for marine use.
